Prior to becoming Chief Executive Officer Mr. Guevara was the Company’s President and has led the company in the successful search of renewable energy projects in Central America. In his new position, Mr. Guevara will lead company efforts in becoming a Latin American leader in renewable energy electricity generation.

BrightStar Renewable Energy (BSRE) is actively looking for projects to develop in Latin America.

First countries with ongoing project pre-feasibility studies are:  Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.  BSRE is interested in developing very low environmental impact projects.  Current projects are geothermal, small hydro and wind electrical power generation.  BSRE is also involved in the socioeconomic development in the countries that BSRE works, social development including libraries, information technologies training, preventive health programs and productive projects support.

BrightStar Renewable Energy Inc. (BSRE) a developer of renewable energy electric power generation projects, announced today that, it has begun feasibility studies on a 10 MW hydroelectricity project in Guatemala, the project is located near the south of the country near the city of Cuyotenango. 

Guatemala is one of the most advanced electricity markets in the world with a growing demand of 6 % annually, about 50 % of electricity in Guatemala is produced using fossil fuels (37 % oil 13 % coal), this structure has lead electricity prices to the $ 130.00 MWh during present year.  Being a developing country, Guatemala is in the urgent need to develop its renewable energy resources. 

Guatemala electrical network is interconnected with the rest of the Central America region through the SIEPAC network and the interconnection with Mexico and Colombia is under development (Mexico interconnection will be ready by the end of 2008).

Through the SIEPAC interconnection Guatemala has been a traditional energy exporter with a net sale of 120,000 MWh during 2007 in the middle term the country can become the main energy exporter in the region, including the sale to Mexico (given market and capacity projections).

BSRE is actively looking into another renewable energy projects in the region.
